Lee Roy
Should Have Called
Artizen Records
Lee Roy Ward is a veteran Dallas based soul/blues musician who has worked with Ernie Johnson and the Lazer Show Band. Should Have Called is his first solo release and was recorded in Dallas and was produced by Timothy Michael Young, Lee Roy Ward and Terrance Moore.
The disc leads off with the title tune written by Young, who also drums on the disc. Over solid, funky from the band and in particular guitarist Chester Burns, Lee Roy Ward delivers the tale of infidelity. “Move Too Late” is a thinly veiled rewrite of B.B. King’s “Never Make Your Move Too Soon” and features Cheryl Arena on harmonica. “Anybody Need Love” also written by Young is a seductive ballad while “Good Girl” is Motown style Rhythm & Blues. Other highlights include “Come Back” and “Whenever You Need Me”.
Should Have Called is a solid soul/blues effort which features some strong performances and songs from Lee Roy Ward and his band making this a solid local effort worth checking out.
