Vernon Garrett
Blues In The Kitchen
I’ve seen it myself numerous times down in the south end of Dallas, where they don’t tolerate no mamby pamby
rock-masquerading-as-blues crap. In a room full of blues heavies. I mean Bluesmen and Bluewomen who KNOW
how to deliver the goods, and do so night after night, year after year, all over the world. They all bow to the man,
Vernon Garrett.
Why is that, you naively ask? Because he IS the man, you fool! No one brings the heart and the soul to the blues
like Vernon. To experience Vernon Garrett live on stage is to claim witness to the true power blues can deliver.
The next best thing is to be able to have that experience through his recordings. And now there is a new one to
add to your collection, Blues In The Kitchen. Vernon doesn’t just sing, he talks directly TO you, delivering his message
in a one on one style that makes you feel he’s singing directly to you, about you, for you.
Now in his 70’s, Garrett’s material is not some rehash of 30 years ago – the messages are firmly rooted in the here and
now. This is Vernon Garrett today, bringing all his years of experience and wisdom clearly into focus for 2007. For example,
check out “Tax Man” – “I went to buy me some gas, cost $3.00. I tell you the Tax Man, he’s making me a poor man.”
Garrett displays a healthy sense of humor here as well on such cuts as “My Woman and My Wife Can’t Seem To Get Along”.
(Hmm, wonder why that would be?!!)
The blues here jump and shout and holler! These are blues to groove to. Don’t just sit there, put Blues In The Kitchen on
and let Vernon Garrett move you!
