Lil' Slim and the Back Alley Blues Band

This four-piece band from Nebraska has released a fine sounding blues-rockin'
CD that was recorded live at the infamous Zoo Bar in the capital city of
Lincoln. Bucking the Fender Strat with Texas hat and initials on guitar
strap syndrome, these youngsters derive their tone from vintage Fender
Super Reverbs and Gibson Les Pauls. Two originals, "Take Me
Home" and "She's So Fine" open up the 11-track Live at the
Zoo Bar. Covers include D. Malone's "As the Years Go Passing
By," Allen Jones/Alvertis Isbell/Otis Redding's "Hard To
Handle" and receiving credit as Unknowns are "If It Is Too
Late," "Tell Me" and "I'm Good." Although this
writer only received the CD and no other information such as names,
history or webpage (liner notes not helpful either), the two Gibson-clad
guitar players both have impressive guitar phrasing and the bass and drums
are as equally tight and efficient in their own right. It would be
interesting to hear this band in a studio with the appropriate
professional production. A band to definitely keep an eye out for in 2000.
