Dc Minner, Selby & Blues On the Move
Love Lost and Found
(Texas Road Recording)
Often times one can forget just how
entertaining DC and Selby Minner are as blues performers in the blinding face of all of
their other incredible blues related ventures. This CD is a happy reminder that this
award-winning duo does know how to musically burn the barn down despite all of the amazing
things they do outside of playing the tunes. DC was just inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz
Hall of Fame. A few weeks before that he and Selby were given the International Blues
Society KBA (Keeping Blues Alive) Award. DC now has a street named after him. They own
their own club in Rentiesville Oklahoma, the place where DC grew up. In 1991, they
established the Dusk Til Dawn Blues Festival; a blues festival held every Labor Day
weekend featuring some of the most incredible performers from around the world, as well as
showcasing local area musicians. The Minners also work in the schools and recently opened
a blues museum. So as you can see, for these two to turn out a great CD too is really
something special. All fourteen tracks are worth shouting about. DC and Selby take turns
on vocals. Most of the tracks are original with a few covers thrown into the mix. We are
talking solid riffs, engaging compositions and some real down home blues. Selby's vocals
are definitely cut from the same cloth as the woman that inspired her, Janis Joplin, but
still uniquely her own. The real surprise on this release is that DC and Selby handle
almost every instrument, right down to the drums and keyboards. Seriously, how many arms
do these people have?! Check out the groove on tracks like "Shakey Ground" or
"Blind, Crippled & Crazy" and you can easily see why the Minners are very
close to being national blues treasures. This is a great CD from two great performers.
