JB Hutto
Rock With Me Tonight
(Bullseye BBB 11661-9620-2)
Pop this one in the player and slide into excellence
with the amazing, often dazzling guitar work of the late, great JB Hutto.
Although we lost JB back in 1983, his legendary down home electric slide
styling will never be forgotten and this 24 bit remastered collection is
all the proof you need of that. If you are looking for a king sized, extra
jumbo portion of raucous, smoking slide mojo, this is the CD of your
dreams, amigo. Hutto plays slide on a guitar like Michelangelo paints a
picture on a ceiling. His eccentric, often times awe inspiring slide work
will just plain knock you out; couple that with some great backup support
from a cool band and the reeds from Roomful of Blues and you got yourself
a Bluestronomical package. There is a lot of charm and magic in his
approach, not to mention high energy. It's difficult to tell that JB was
only a few months away from leaving this world when you listen to him play
on this CD. The release doesn't waste any time getting down to business
with the first track "Pretty Baby." Hutto delivers the goods and
doesn't skimp on the portions. Check out how he supercharges the Fenton
Robinson tune "Somebody Loan Me A Dime" with some lightening
like fret work. Listen to how he furiously pounces on the Howlin' Wolf
song "I'm Leaving You." Also contained on the CD are two
previously unreleased tracks. You could purchase other slide guitar
collections and never get the vicarious slide fix that this one gives you.
This is the stuff they were talking about when they told you about
hardcore slide monster blues. It is intense, adventurous and full of life.
