Big G The Guitar Giant: Rhythm Attack

Big G The Guitar Giant
Rhythm Attack
(Big-1001)

Check out this new CD by Big G. A young man from Edmond, Oklahoma that shows a lot of promise, and talent playing the blues. This CD is as surprising as the first time I had the pleasure of seeing Big G play. The nine songs on this CD are all originals, no covers like one might expect for a first helping of a new blues artist. What is really amazing is the fact that Big G (Garrett Jacobson) is only fifteen years old, although one can't tell by the playing. Garrett's influences are B.B. King, Albert Collins and other Chicago and Beale Street masters. The title track is tight and has the sound of Chicago blues. He had the fortune of having a horn section when he cut this disc, which really adds to the finished product. "G's Shuffle" reminds me of classic Ice Man licks. Jacobson not only does the guitar work and vocals, but also plays the keyboards which can be heard on "Dry Ice." The first time that I heard the CD, all I could think of was that this is an incredible feat for someone of his young age. I can only imagine as he matures and gets a real taste of the blues that life experience brings, how he will only continue to improve. You can order this CD at his website at www.okclive.com/BigG/
