Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater
Cool Blues Walk
(Bullseye Blues & Jazz)
There is a lot to like on this CD from the
West Side of Chicago style guitar player. Eddy Clearwater teams up with Duke Robillard on
eleven strong songs, eight of which are originals from "The Chief." Although
this is Eddy Clearwater's twelfth album in twenty years, Eddy has lost none of his energy
or originality. The CD open with the strong Chicago sound of "Cool Blues Walk."
A nice raw cover of the classic "Stranded" precedes the funkier "Bad Mamma
Jamma." "Nashville Road" lends itself to an electrified country blues tune.
"Boppin' at the Top of the Rock" is self explanatory as to the nature of the
song. Eddy and Duke are in fine form on Freddie King's "Sen-Say-Shun" and the CD
closes nicely on the strong slow blues "Blues For a Living." Eddy Clearwater has
been playing the blues for over forty years. This CD shows us the strength and character
that "The Chief" has developed over these past decades.
