~ Christmas With No One to Love ~

Released in 1961 “Charles Brown Sings Christmas Songs” has become just as much a tradition as trimming the tree or spiking the eggnog. The second song on the album is titled “Christmas With No One to Love” which is a standard eight-bar blues form that captures the sadness of a holiday season when you find yourself alone. There is a twist in bars three and four where we have a descending chromatic line. The C minor in bar two and the half-step approach between the Am7 and the Eb9 chords produce a West Coast feel. You can also substitute a G9 chord on the last two beats of bars one and five. The following example only gives the chords to the verse and not to the bridge of the song. Check out this progression, take it real slow and feel those Christmas blues.

Eight Bar Blues in key of G

G / / / | Cm / / / | Bm / Bbm / | Am / D7 / | G / / / | Am7 / Eb9 / | G / Eb9 / | Am7 / D7 / ||

“Christmas With No One to Love Chords”

* The numbers following the chord letter are where you fret your fingers on the string. If there is a "0" then the string is open, if there is an "x" then no note is played.

Enjoy, and always keep your ears open.
