By Jackie Don Loe
~ Sunrise Blues ~
“The World is Waiting for the Sunrise” was
originally written in 1919 with the music by Ernest Seitz and the words by
Eugene Lockhart. The song has been recorded many times over the years with
impressive versions by Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Django
Reinhardt. It was revitalized in 1951 when Les Paul and Mary Ford released
a version that hit the charts with their “new sound”, multi-tracking
his guitar and her voice to produce layers of harmonies never heard
before. The following example outlines the basic progression and uses
simple chords. Start with a G7 #5 and then slowly play the chords to hear
the song. This is a great song to jam on, try connecting different chord
voicings to sustain the melody and for an extra treat end with a sweet C
6/9 #11 chord!

* The numbers following the chord letter are where you fret your fingers
on the string. If there is a "0" then the string is open, if there is an
"x" then no note is played.
Enjoy, and always keep your ears open.
