Sam Myers passed away on Monday, July 17 at about 10:54 AM. He was doing so well since his release from the hospital that this came rather sudden and somewhat unexpected.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 20th from 6 to 9 PM at the Sandra Clark Funeral Home in South Dallas located on South RL Thornton Frwy, across from the Laurel Land Cemetery. The Memorial Service was held at this location on Friday, July 21st at 11:00 AM. Many of his friends and musicians he knew and played with were in attendance.

Memorial Services in Jackson, Mississippi were held on Saturday, 1:00 PM, at the Peoples Funeral home, 866 North Pharish St. (601-969-3040). Burial was at 5:00 PM at the Rocky Mountain Baptist Cemetery in Paulding, Mississippi, near Meridian.

We will miss him much.

Sam Myers Benefit at the Granada Theater

Sam Myers has been performing as a blues artist since his late teens dating back to the early 1950's. He was a former drummer with blues-great Elmore James and has dedicated his life to the blues. Sam, a Dallas resident since the mid-eighties, has performed with countless others before becoming the frontman for Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets. He was best known as a harmonica player and blues vocalist and has been with The Rockets as their featured vocalist since 1986. Collectively, Sam and The Rockets have won nine W. C. Handy-awards which are the equivalent to the Grammy awards. Here are video files of Sam performing with Anson and The Rockets.

Sams last Birthday at the Cottage Lounge

The Andrea D Bluesband at the Maple Point saw a few folks getting together in Sam's memory and the Tony DeCicco - Perry Jones jam at the Goat was declared the Jamers 'Sam Myers Wake' with Texas Slim, Jackie Don Loe, Kenny Barker, Mike Morgan, Cheryl Arena, Mighty Paul Young, David Miller and many more in attendance. Lot's of stories, some going back to the Schooners days were being swapped. Hash Browns jam on Wednesday at the Hole In The Wall was dedicated to Sam also.

       Godspeed Sam...!
